Mystery Bird of July

21 Jul

Who Am I?

OK, so who is this little guy? Please respond in the Comments Section. I took this photo in the Jacksonville, Florida Zoo.

There are so many excellent photos of UNIDENTIFIED beautiful birds available on the Internet. This is the first in a series of Monthly Mystery Birds from around the world. This series seeks to tap the knowledge of people who recognize these beauties, and to spread that knowledge to the rest of us. There’s something satisfying about knowing the names of birds. They become more familiar to us and seem more like friends when we know what to call them. Sort of like, “Oh, there’s Brad Pitt”, rather than, “Oh, there’s some guy on the street.”

After some expert supplies the name of our Mystery Bird, we’ll add some details about just who that bird is and where it’s from.

If you recognize this bird, please respond in the Comments Section below, and help to enlighten our readers.

Just looked back at this, and this is certainly not a Broad-billed Hummingbird. Did the photo get mixed up somehow? Sorry if I contributed any confusion, but the photo I remember (the one I was basing my ID on) was a Broad-billed Hummer. I have no idea what this little guy is.
Please remove the Broad-billed ID from this one… I don’t want anyone to think that’s what I think it is.

I found it… The Broad-billed was the AZ Hummer that comes up on the main page of your blog. Still don’t know about this little guy.

Thanks a lot, Jay. I’ve modified both the top sticky post (now Broad-billed hummer) and the July Mystery bird post to reflect your comments.
